ever students at Bates Elementary School and Horace Mann Laboratory School wish to become cartoonists, illustrators or even authors, they’ll have a good blueprint.
Scholars at both schools received a visit from Jon Chad, an illustrator, cartoonist and author of more than 25 learning-based children’s books, who detailed his creative process, from first pen to paper to the final edits.
Mr. Chad’s process is unique on that he uses STEM topics and combines exciting narratives:
- Superheroes that solve crimes using mathematics
- The Periodic Table of Elements to explain the ‘Building Blocks of Everything’
- His love of Pinball and how he explains it as a game of skill, not luck
Posed with the question of how he acquired his love of cartooning, Mr. Chad displayed his very first comic he created as a young child, after which he was hooked.
