VIEW GALLERY: 35th Annual Salem State University Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation & Luncheon

Horace Mann Laboratory School fifth grade students Enmanuel de la Cruz Ureña, Erin Tafua, Johnny San and Rosely Mojica were honored Monday morning at the 35th Annual Salem State University Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation & Luncheon at SSU’s Sophia Gordon Theater and Veterans Memorial Hall.
Last week, Mr. de la Cruz Ureña, Ms. Tafua and Mr. San were each named winners of the MLK, Jr., Essay Writing Contest while Ms. Mojica was named a runner-up. On Monday, Mr. de la Cruz Ureña, Ms. Tafua and Mr. San each received a check for $100 and Ms. Mojica $50, along with a certificate and a copy of the book “March,” by late U.S. Congressman John Lewis (D, Ga.).
Offering his remarks at the Convocation was SSU president John Keenan, a 1983 graduate of Salem High School, while Lucy Corchado, a Staff Assistant at SSU’s Center for Justice and Liberation and a 1986 SHS graduate, presented the essay contest awards.
The 36th Annual MLK. Jr. Convocation and Luncheon is slated for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.
